Little Green Light is our donor management software. It stores information about our donors and other constituents and allows us to track donations and acknowledgments, create reports, communicate with constituents, and more. It is used by people in this organization who are involved with fundraising, financials, and donor stewardship. It allows us to maintain excellent and robust donation records, familiarize ourselves with our donors, and process donation payments seamlessly from our website.
  • Saves time and steps when receiving, categorizing, and acknowledging donations.
  • It is a powerful relational database with the flexibility to view information in many different ways.
  • I wish the LGL Forms could send notices when a customer's recurring payment fails.
  • More integration with other programs would be wonderful.
LGL is a robust and powerful tool for nonprofit organizations of all sizes, who want to track their donor base. It is user-friendly, intuitive, and very customizable. The ability to receive donations using LGL Forms works seamlessly with the database, saving you time in data entry, and you can easily look at reports that illustrate your levels of giving year-by-year.
  • The better I know my donors, the more comfortable they are making gifts to my organization.
  • LGL lends us the professionalism that gives our donors confidence.
Salesforce is so vast and complicated that I was unable to make sense of how to use the product, despite being reasonably computer-literate. In comparison, LGL was simple to use from day one. It was clearly built for nonprofits, unlike Salesforce which appears to have taken their base product and tried to adapt it for nonprofit use. With LGL, I was easily able to import my existing data from my previous relational database and get to work right away putting that data to use.
LGL support is absolutely unreal. Send a question straight from inside the software and within minutes you will receive a response from someone at the company who will help you. Most of the time, the person responding to my questions is one of the developers or owners of the company. They are kind, patient, and very helpful. The online knowledge base is very comprehensive as well.

We use LGL within the advancement department for donor management and gift tracking. It also houses our mailing list for the organization, including current parents and alumni. It is not our primary student software system, but we maintain some student information because it is very convenient to have access to it using LGL's functionality. We like the ease of segmenting, list-building, creating custom reports, recording constituent contacts, and the user-friendly presentation of information.
  • Transparent, "live" list creation - Easy to see who your criteria are selecting.
  • Flexibility of custom menu items - Easy to configure system to meet your needs.
  • Can't think of any shortcomings!
As a small non-profit, we find LGL is very well-suited to our needs for managing our donor relationships and fundraising efforts. As a school, our constituents include current parents and students; while we include them in LGL for convenience, we don't expect LGL to function as a student information system or parent portal, and therefore have other systems for this information.
  • Allows much greater flexibility in accessing important information.
LGL is significantly less expensive with higher functionality, easier for more users to access, and has more information easily viewable without pulling a formal report.
In the early years, I received extremely fast responses to any request for help or suggestion for improved functionality. Recently I haven't had a reason to seek support because the system performs as I need. Online help is very descriptive and acts as a good reference.

Great CRM for the value

We are a mid-sized non-profit and we use Little Green Light (LGL) as our primary CRM database. Our primary use is in our development department where we track and manage donations as well as tracking our internal and external relationships. We also use the native forms for our online giving and event registrations.
  • Easy to use - Can be set up fairly quickly.
  • Powerful but not overwhelming- It can do nearly everything you want from a database but you don't need to have a dedicated staff managing it.
  • The mobile site is nonexistent - Not usually a major problem but can be when trying to access information away from a computer.
  • Support is only via email and to get a good response you need to have precise questions.
I think it's great for smaller organizations or organizations that don't have a lot of dedicated development staff. For organizations that are processing many gifts, it is probably not the best solution. The permissions system also is limited making users who have to work with donations essentially 'super users' and others having very limited control which if you are worried about privacy within your team can be a challenge.
  • Good tracking of constituents.
  • We can easily code incoming online gifts which saves processing time.
  • Raiser's Edge NXT
I used Raiser's Edge previously, it was more robust but was not as easy to quickly upload tasks and assign them to stewards. However it was easier to process gifts on Raiser's Edge and we were able to double-check all gift coding before committing batches, without slowing down the workflow which is not something you can do on Little Green Light. Overall for the cost, LGL provides a better value.
They are quick to respond via email, and when you ask a specific question they are good at answering or troubleshooting the problem. However, the lack of phone or chat support makes it difficult to explain a situation to the support agent, which I have found to be especially true with staff who are less experienced working with databases.

We use Little Green Light (LGL) to track donor data including donation history, mailings, meeting summaries, contact info, background info, and more. We also use it to pull complex reports with all sorts of data. We develop mailing lists and track data on who receives the mailings. We run fundraising campaigns and track progress using their Appeals and Campaigns functions. We email donors and smaller groups and track all the emails in LGL. Every employee uses it. It's our number-one resource to keep track of information on people.
  • You can pull robust reports based on complex queries and get all kinds of information.
  • Their customer service is fantastic. If I have any question or need help in the database, they respond and take care of it promptly.
  • Occasionally I want to pull a report and can't get the information I want. That's usually when I'm within a certain area of it, like Gifts, and it won't let me pull data outside of a few categories relevant to that. I haven't figured out why yet.
  • The interface works well and is easy to read, but it does look like it hasn't been updated in a long time. It's not as modern and flashy as some newer ones. But that's not really a flaw. I don't have a lot of complaints!
Basically any nonprofit can benefit from this. I can't think of an instance where you wouldn't want to use it. I suppose things like Raiser's Edge might be more robust for a really huge nonprofit, but LGL works great for our needs. It's also not appropriate for a business, as it was built for nonprofits and is made to track donor data, not customers and purchasing and tax and all that. LGL is also not accounting software.
  • It has definitely helped us recruit more donors and keep up to date on sending reminders, thus raising more money.
  • Since it's easy to use, even our least techie staff can handle it, so it's easy to implement and use across the organization.
It's been a long time since I used eTap, but I much prefer LGL. It's just set up in a way that makes storing and pulling up info much easier, and pulling reports. Unless eTap has changed in the past 6 or so years.
I've never experienced a more responsive or friendly tech company. They are always right on top of emails and will work on a problem until it's solved. I also appreciate their blog, which gives helpful fundraising tips as well as best-use suggestions for getting the most out of the database. The LGL learning center also has tons of resources on how to use the software and get anything you want out of it.
